Single Needle Charka
The single-needle charkha is a type of traditional hand spinning machine that has been used since ancient times in India. It uses a single needle and a large flywheel that is manually rotated to twist the yarn. Because the strength of the twist depends on the movement of the hand, the thickness and neps vary, resulting in a yarn with a simple appearance. Because it is spun slowly in small quantities, traces of the handiwork remain, and the rich, uneven texture is attractive.
