REPAIR / REDYE
Information on repairs and re-dyeing
Our garments aren’t made for just one season, but for years to come—even when the fabric is on the verge of wearing through.
To ensure you can continue to enjoy them for as long as possible, we offer in-house repair services.
Repairs are available regardless of when or where you purchased your item. After discussing the details with you, our staff will carefully mend your garment on-site.
We also handle re-dyeing in deep indigo or black using natural indigo, plant dyes, BENGARA pigments, or reactive dyes.
Please note that all repairs and re-dyeing are carried out in Japan, so you will need to send your item to us here. Thank you for your understanding.

- Our products only.
- We do not accept major design alterations, as such changes may make it difficult to incorporate the item into the future cycle of MITTAN products.
- Please refer to our Instagram account for examples of repairs and re-dyeing.
- As re-dyeing puts some strain on the fabric, we ask that you wear the garment for at least one season before requesting this service.
- Please note that unevenness in color may occur during the re-dyeing process. If the garment has come into contact with certain substances or stains through repeated wear, areas that appeared unaffected before dyeing may show blotches or irregularities afterward.
- Light colors obtained through plant-based dyes are particularly prone to unevenness. If such irregularities occur, an additional re-dyeing fee may apply. For those concerned, we recommend choosing darker shades.
- While we will take your preferences into account regarding the type of dye and general depth of color, we ask that you leave the final hue selection to us. The result varies depending on the dye and the condition of the fabric at the time.
- If we discover additional areas that require repair after your item arrives, or if softening or new holes are found following dyeing, we may contact you to discuss further repairs.
- Due to the characteristics of the spinning environment, handwoven fabrics may exhibit random irregularities in color after re-dyeing.
- For garments containing wool or animal fibers, re-dyeing may cause significant shrinkage, making it difficult to re-dye the entire product. However, partial dyeing or the addition of stitching can help reduce the appearance of fading. Please feel free to consult with us.
- When re-dyeing from one dark shade to another—such as from black to sumi-black or from black to deep navy—the original color may still remain strongly visible.
- When silk is present in the fabric, re-dyeing to sumi-black may result in a finish with a strong reddish tone.
- Repair and re-dyeing costs vary depending on the area and color. We provide estimates upon request, so please feel free to contact us at any time.
- Please note that we may use before-and-after images of your garment for our own documentation or promotional purposes.
