Open Atelier “The Workshop Archive”
08/01,2025
We will be hosting an open atelier event titled “The Workshop Archive” in Sakyo Ward, Kyoto. During the event, visitors will have the opportunity to explore areas of the atelier that are normally closed to the public, and to learn about MITTAN’s approaches to production and material circulation.
Fabric remnants
We will present a wide variety of leftover fabrics and offcuts generated in the process of garment-making. Also on display will be one-of-a-kind items created by our sewing staff using these remnants.
Recrafted garments
Pre-owned MITTAN garments—purchased back from customers—have been repaired, re-dyed, and carefully cleaned, bringing out a renewed character. Each piece is prepared with the hope that it may go on to be worn and cherished once again.
Surplus materials
Surplus materials from our production process—including buttons, sewing threads, and zippers—will be available for viewing and purchase. Some items will also be offered free of charge.
Personal objects
We will also present personal items previously owned by individuals connected to MITTAN, as part of our broader approach to circularity. Through new encounters, we hope these objects may find fresh purpose in someone else’s hands.
In addition, vintage clothing and books will also be available for purchase during the event.
At MITTAN, we continue to pursue ways of reducing waste to nearly zero. Through this event, we hope to offer an experience of how new value can emerge from the thoughtful circulation of materials and garments.
We look forward to welcoming you.
