Washing in general
When washed in water, MITTAN products and all natural fibre products are subject to gradual surface abrasion as the fibres rub against each other in the water, leading to fluffing, wrinkling, fading and loss of shape. To prolong the life of your garments, it is important to reduce the number of washes and minimise the load on the fibres.
On a daily basis, remove partial stains with local washing and reduce the frequency of full washing by hand washing, brushing or using the steam function of the iron. When using a washing machine, always follow the washing instructions on the product tag and select the appropriate course.Set washing and dehydration to short periods of time to avoid unnecessary friction. To prevent fibre tangling and friction, use a laundry net of the correct size for the garment. If it is too large, the garment will move and twist; if it is too small, water and detergent will not be distributed and stains will not be removed.
Different detergents should be used depending on the dyeing method and material. For grass-dyed products, we recommend a neutral detergent that does not contain bleach or fluorescent bleach. For wool and silk, hand-wash detergents or special detergents are safe, while for chemically dyed dark-coloured products, a colour-fade-resistant detergent will reduce colour fading.Follow the labeled amount of detergent and avoid overdosing, which will reduce the number of rinses and further reduce damage.Coloured and light-coloured fabrics should always be washed separately, and if bleaching is required, oxygen bleach is a safe choice.
Fabric softeners leave a thin film on the surface of the fibres, which may reduce their moisture absorption, desorption and water repellency. It is recommended to avoid using fabric softeners on natural fibre products or, if necessary, to use only a very small amount.Dehydrate as shortly as possible after washing, and as soon as you take it out, shape it and dry it in the shade in an airy place.Avoid direct sunlight and always dry in shade, especially for grass-dyed products, which are sensitive to UV rays.Other natural fibres will also deteriorate if exposed to UV rays for long periods of time, so drying in shade is essential.Tumbler drying (rotary dryer) is recommended to be avoided due to the strong friction it causes.
Steam irons not only help to straighten wrinkles, but also deodorise, sterilise and reduce allergens. After use, make sure to blow off any remaining steam before storing it and take care to avoid moisture build-up.
Incorporating these care tips into your daily routine will help your garments last longer and in better condition.Try them out.
