Pilling care for wool and animal hair products
Although MITTAN can remove pilling as part of the repair process, you can also reduce pilling at home by taking care of your woollen garments as appropriate.First, after wearing, gently brush the garment with a soft bristle brush along the fibre flow to remove surface dust and loose fibres. At this point, allowing the garment to rest for two to three days after wearing it once will reduce the chance of friction and prevent the formation of pilling.Careful care is particularly effective in areas where the fibres tend to rub against each other, such as underarms and shoulder areas.
When washing, turn the product inside out and place it in a laundry net and hand-wash it with a neutral wool detergent or select the hand wash course on your washing machine. This reduces friction between the garments and the drum, which helps to reduce pilling. As small dust pilling can grow from a nucleus, washing clothes separately from towels and other fluffier items, and rinsing less frequently, is even more effective.
If fluff balls still form, first try gently loosening surface dust and tangled fibres with a soft bristle brush or a commercially available fluff ball remover, then consider an electric fluff ball remover.Read the instruction manual for the fluff remover carefully, apply it lightly to the product and carefully trim only the fluff. The key is not to press the blade hard, but to glide it along the hair flow.Cutting them out one by one with scissors is also an effective means of preventing damage to the fabric, but it is safe to limit this to small hairballs.
Finally, brushing the fibres again and allowing them to rest for a few days before wearing the garment again will help prevent the pilling from reoccurring.By incorporating these steps into your daily routine, you can maintain the smooth texture of your garment for many years to come.
